# Dinge

        For this work, I have been photographing everyday things, wondering at what the camera does to them: how a familiar thing, once photographed, can become briefly strange, loosened from its name and turned into something else entirely.Most of the time we look through things rather than at them, through to their names and their uses. A photograph can get in the way of that, and the thing begins to shift: a shadow gains weight and becomes a thing of its own, a hard surface appears to become liquid, one form detaches and drifts toward another. Sometimes the picture holds nothing solid at all, only a shadow, a reflection, a cut or an opening, and whatever made it stays out of the frame. Taken together, these pictures are not a collection of things at all, but of their appearances. As one morphs into the next, everything could just as well be otherwise.
