A camera's focus is a mechanical thing, but it also resembles human attention. Where I place it, a thing exists. Where I let it drift, the thing thins and dissolves, revealing something harder to name.
I have been photographing newspaper boxes near where I live, metal tubes and plastic tunnels fixed beside front doors and garden fences to receive the daily paper. The papers rarely come anymore, but the boxes have stayed, mostly empty, shifting in and out of visibility.
